Medical care in Oman is excellent. There are many private specialist clinics, private and government hospitals, all staffed by qualified professionals. Omani nationals and resident expats are given health care for a nominal cost at government hospitals, although expats must have a referral from a Health Centre to receive treatment. Waiting time at Government hospitals is much longer as they are usually very busy.

Muscat Pharmacy branches at Al Khuwair Commercial Center, Al Sarooj and Muscat Private Hospital, and the Scientific Pharmacy in Al Qurm are open 24 hours. Locations and numbers are listed in the newspapers.

 Heat and Dehydration
Summers in Oman are hot and humid and unless you have lived in this part of the world before, you will probably misjudge how hot it can get.  Wear a strong sun-block all the year around, especially on your neck and face and drink plenty of water. Hotels, Restaurants and Shopping malls often have frosty air conditioning to combat the heat outside and the frequent temperature changes can leave you vulnerable to colds.

Muscat Private Hospital has an excellent pediatrics department run by two pediatricians on a back to back shift. They also operate a 24 hour hotline; open to parents and teenagers under 18, offering invaluable medical advice and counseling.
